ILLINOIS ENTERS STAGE FOUR OF RESTORE ILLINOIS
Mitigation Restrictions Increase
The State of Illinois has announced increased mitigation efforts in the Metro East due to the rise in positivity rate in testing for COVID-19. The following are now in effect for all of Madison County and will remain so until further notice.
- Restaurants and bars are prohibited from offering indoor seating. Only outdoor seating is available at this time.
- All bars and restaurants will close by 11 p.m. and may not open before 6 a.m.
- Waiting, congregating, or standing in line, inside or outside, is prohibited. Restaurants and bars must take reservations for outdoor seating.
- Meetings, social events, and gatherings are limited to the lesser of 25 people or 25% of overall room capacity. This cuts in half the previous 50 person / 50% capacity guideline. They must conclude by 11 p.m.
- Reception halls, including the Hamel Community Center, are closed. Party buses are closed.
- Gaming and Casinos must close by 11 p.m. and are also limited to 25% capacity.
These mitigation efforts will be in effect until the region is able to reduce its seven-day rolling average testing positivity rate to 6.5% or below. If the rate stays at over 8 %, additional mitigations efforts may be undertaken. The Village of Hamel will continue to monitor this situation and keep you informed.

Welcome to the Village of Hamel
The Village of Hamel has always had the advantage of being at a crossroads. Andrew Jackson Hamel saw the opportunity in our location when he founded “Hamel’s Corner” in 1850, and today approximately 1,000 residents and 45 business owners enjoy the benefits of making Hamel their home.
We are a small but growing community that is proud of our Route 66 heritage and optimistic about our future. The Village of Hamel provides quick and easy access to the St. Louis area via Interstate 55, Illinois Route 157 and Illinois Route 140 and is part of Edwardsville Consolidated School Dist. 7.
The Village of Hamel is known by Route 66 fans from across the country and around the world for our connection to the Mother Road. Hamel has two original Route 66 attractions, The Tourist Haven Restaurant, now Weezy’s Route 66, and the “Church of the Neon Cross” St. Paul Lutheran.
As one of the fastest growing communities in the area we are planning for our future, but we value and respect our small-town appeal. The Village of Hamel offers a quiet and secure setting with strong local businesses and an active and friendly community that you can get to know.
Thanks for visiting our website. We look forward to you visiting the Village of Hamel soon.

Community Camera Program
