As part of the effort to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus, the Village of Hamel will be implementing new policies as they become necessary. We are receiving regular updates from county, state and federal officials regarding the outbreak and steps necessary to help curb it as much as possible. The first two actions, closing the Community Building and halting late fees and water shut offs, are listed below.
While this is an unprecedented situation, the way we must handle it is not unique at all. Caring for and supporting our community is what we have always done. We must continue to support each other—to be there for our families, our friends and our neighbors. That is something that happens every day in our community, and right now it’s more important than ever.
A special board meeting has been called for March 31st, 2020 at 7:00 pm. This will be held via teleconferencing. If you have questions regarding this meeting contact Village Clerk at 618-633-2484.

Welcome to the Village of Hamel
The Village of Hamel has always had the advantage of being at a crossroads. Andrew Jackson Hamel saw the opportunity in our location when he founded “Hamel’s Corner” in 1850, and today approximately 1,000 residents and 45 business owners enjoy the benefits of making Hamel their home.
We are a small but growing community that is proud of our Route 66 heritage and optimistic about our future. The Village of Hamel provides quick and easy access to the St. Louis area via Interstate 55, Illinois Route 157 and Illinois Route 140 and is part of Edwardsville Consolidated School Dist. 7.
The Village of Hamel is known by Route 66 fans from across the country and around the world for our connection to the Mother Road. Hamel has two original Route 66 attractions, The Tourist Haven Restaurant, now Weezy’s Route 66, and the “Church of the Neon Cross” St. Paul Lutheran.
As one of the fastest growing communities in the area we are planning for our future, but we value and respect our small-town appeal. The Village of Hamel offers a quiet and secure setting with strong local businesses and an active and friendly community that you can get to know.
Thanks for visiting our website. We look forward to you visiting the Village of Hamel soon.
